what opens what
every product page names its application and format. this page is the general picture, so you can tell before you start whether a department is for you.
a newer version of an application usually opens an older file. the other direction often does not. where a file needs a minimum version, the product page says so — and the product page wins over anything general written here.
typefaces are not passed on with a file unless their own licence allows it. not sure your setup will open something? ask before you buy.
